Charles Wheeler Nicholas
(November 5, 1956 - April 21, 2024)

Charles "Gremlin" "Chuck" "Shorty" "Nick" Wheeler Nicholas, 67, formerly of Waynesboro, of Staunton, went home to glory and is resting in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

He was born on November 5, 1956 in Charlottesville, VA, to the late Charles C. and Susan E. (Barbour) Nicholas.

He was the grandson of the late Deacon Joseph “Joe” and Lottie Barbour.

He graduated in 1975 from Waynesboro High School. He retired from Miller-Coors with 26 years of service and worked for McCutcheon and Jones Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

He was a true servant of God. A very loyal and dedicated Deacon of Shiloh Baptist church of Waynesboro and later moved his membership to Union Baptist Church of Waynesboro where he continued serving faithfully in the Deacon Ministry and sung in various church choirs.

He was the Assistant Manager of The Waynesboro Union Male Chorus.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Charles was survived by his wife, Catherine “Kitty” Nicholas; four siblings, John “Remus” C. Nicholas, Nathaniel “Nat” Nicholas, Sr., Bertina” Big Sister” Nicholas-Slaughter (Reggie), Tammy “Little Sister” Nicholas-McCutcheon (Carl, Jr.); two nephews, Nathaniel “JR” Nicholas, Jr. and Brandon G. Nicholas; one great niece, Payton Nicholas and one great nephew, Gerard Nicholas; step-children, Chester “Squeak” Smith, Jr. (Dawn), Elizabeth Bryant (Irvine), numerous step grandchildren and several “lumps of sugar” step great grandchildren; Carl, Sr. & E. Jeanie “Mom & Pop” McCutcheon; Min. “Mom” Connie Crawford; Goddaughter, Jamice Dickerson; five very special friends, William “G-Man” Davenport, Chester Smith, Sr., Deacon Walter “Captain” Thomas, Joe Fitch and Carl Garland; numerous cousins, other relatives and many many friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Union Baptist Church-Waynesboro, 820 E. Main Street. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 at 12 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 234 Shiloh Ave, Waynesboro. Burial will be at the family cemetery, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 2800 Pea Ridge Road, Whitehall, VA.
